Start Up Lectures 2019-20: Activist Biographies in Eastern Europe

Das Fellowship-Programm für Kunst und Theorie stellt im Jahr 2019-20 Arbeitsvorhaben in den Fokus, die sich mit bestimmten Identitätskonstruktionen beschäftigen, die für unsere Gegenwart von konstitutiver Bedeutung sind. Im Rahmen der Start Up Lectures 2019-20 stellen die neuen Fellows sich und ihre Arbeit vor und werden geben Ausblick auf das jeweilige Arbeitsvorhaben in den kommenden Monaten.
Airi TRIISBERG beschäftigt sich in Büchsenhausen mit aktivistischen Biografien in Osteuropa. Das Rechercheprojekt beabsichtigt, soziale Bewegungen in der Region, mit einem besonderen Fokus auf die baltischen Staaten, zu dokumentieren, zu kontextualisieren und zu analysieren. Dazu wird eine Vielzahl von politischen Organisator_innen interviewt, die in politischen Bewegungen aktiv sind und oft auch an der Schnittstelle von Wissensproduktion, Kunst und Kultur arbeiten. Die Forschungsteilnehmer_innen sind in dem breiten Spektrum von Initiativen für mehr soziale Gerechtigkeit aktiv, unter anderem in queeren/feministischen Organisationen, Arbeitskämpfen, antirassistischer Politik und ökologischen Bewegungen.
Das Forschungsprojekt ist als ein Prozess aktivistischer Wissensproduktion konzipiert und wird mit der biographischen Methode realisiert. Dazu gehören vertiefende Interviews, in denen die Projektteilnehmer_innen aufgefordert werden, über ihre politischen Biografien nachzudenken.

In 2019-20, the Fellowship Program for Art and Theory will focus on work projects addressing constructions of identity that are of constituent significance for our present. In the context of the Startup Lecturest the new Fellows introduced themselves and their work, and provided some insight into their respective proposals for their projects.
The research project from Airi Triisberg aims to document, contextualize and analyze social movements in Eastern Europe. It includes interviews with a variety of political organizers who are active in movement politics, and often also work at the intersection of knowledge production, art and culture. The research participants are active on the broad spectrum of social justice initiatives, including queer/feminist organizing, labor struggles, anti-racist politics, ecological movements, etc.
The geographic scope of the research will focus particularly on the Baltic Sea region, but is not limited to that. The research project is conceptualized as a process of activist knowledge production and will be carried out with the biographical method. This includes in-depth interviews in which the project participants are asked to reflect on their political biographies.
