Archives, like other media infrastructure, are massively affected by the consequences of digitization. Heretofore, the general public had only limited access to archives. Now, the internet makes it possible to open them up to users worldwide. This raises many new questions, but above all in connection with copyright law.

KEYNOTE MANFRED FASSLER
Manfred Fassler is a professor at the Institute of Cultural Anthropologyof the Goethe University in Frankfurt, director of the international «research network anthropology of the media,» FAMe / Frankfurt-Vienna-Sao Paulo-Kyoto. The title of his keynote speech at the ARCHIVIA Conference (31 August, 2012, Linz): «Archiving does not equal knowledge. or: Knowledge is not a gift of a machine».
