Asthma is a serious chronic illness that affects millions of children and adults worldwide.
The risk of severe asthma attacks was lower with an as-needed inhaler containing a bronchodilator and a corticosteroid than with an as-needed inhaler containing a bronchodilator alone.
In more detailed words: In patients with uncontrolled moderate-to-severe asthma who also were using a wide range of inhaled maintenance corticosteroids, the risk of severe asthma attacks was lower with an as-needed rescue inhaler, i.e., intended for use when an asthma attack starts to begin, containing a fixed-dose combination of a bronchodilator (180 μg of albuterol) plus a corticosteroid (160 μg of budesonide) than with an as-needed inhaler with the bronchodilator alone.
