Creating new music often feels like a laboratory: ideas are tested, sounds tried out. This process of experimentation happens in close collaboration between composers and performers. Students of composition are eager to get opportunities to work with musicians, and Schallfeld is always happy to do masterclasses and rehearsal sessions with young students. Last November, Schallfeld was ensemble in residence at Mozarteum academy in Salzburg, where we worked with students from the composition teachers of Mozarteum (classes of Johannes Maria Staud, Laure Hiendl, Sarah Nemtsov). We had an intensive working period together, and you will hear some impression by the students – as well as the resulting music – in this podcast! Welcome to the lab of new music!
