In this Club9 edition we welcomed the conductor of Ischler Symphoniker and director of music in Bad Ischl Jakob Seiwald to the programme for a conversation about the musical life of the town.

We began by looking back at the summer season and its musical highlights before turning our attention to the upcoming autumn and winter programme of the Ischler Symphoniker. Jakob introduced the concerts and shared some insights into the music and ideas behind them.

The season offers a varied programme, including a special concert on November 21, commemorating the death of Emperor Franz Joseph, featuring Johann Adolf Hasse’s Salve Regina, Tomaso Albinoni’s Concerto for Two Oboes and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.

The Christmas concert will be dedicated to operetta, while the New Year’s concert will bring together a diverse selection of works by Mozart, Johann Strauss II, Puccini, Saint-Saëns, Leroy Anderson and other composers. Looking further ahead, the programme includes a Valentine’s Day concert featuring music by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and an Easter Concert with Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Schumann’s overture and Richard Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 1. The Mother’s Day concert will turn the spotlight on female composers of the Romantic period, with works by Clara Schumann, Emilie Mayer and Louise Farrenc.

Beyond the symphony orchestra’s regular programme, Jakob also spoke about the Piano Improvisation Festival planned for February and a special concert featuring the music of film composer Hans Zimmer.

It was a conversation about musical traditions, new perspectives and the rich cultural programme that continues to make Bad Ischl an important musical destination throughout the year. Broadcasted live from the Freies Radio Salzkammergut studio in Bad Ischl on November 5, 2026.
