Reinterpreting the Past vol. 3

In this episode we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Ensemble Schallfeld. Ten years ago we did our first concert as a music group under that name, after finding together during our studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. Now we are here, years later, with a lot of memories and experiences grown together and countless notes and new pieces played. Hurray! For this special podcast, we invited some long-standing members of Schallfeld to reflect on their motivation to start a group, the situation we face and what challenges and benefits the work in a collective holds for individuals. And you get to hear some recordings from our archive, including some music from our first-ever concert that happened on 9. November 2013! Here are some stories that together may one day form a small fraction of what we later may call music history – or not, who knows? Happy birthday Schallfeld, and happy new ears everyone!

Music by: Anahita Abbasi, George Crumb, Lorenzo Romano (plus some sound samples by other artists including Pierre Boulez, a concrete mixer, some unknown swing band and more)

Host: Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka

memories and interviews by: Andres Gutierrez, Anahita Abbasi

the happy birthday recording at the very end was created by Schallfeld in their last concert on 13. November 2023 at Volkshaus Graz.
