No More Violence Against Women – The Podcast of the WAVE Network

In this podcast, WAVE voices are amplified to shed light on the many forms and dimensions of violence against women and girls, the importance of prevention, key legislation such as the Istanbul Convention, and national developments across Europe. Through the expertise, efforts, and experiences of women’s specialist service providers, women’s human rights defenders and feminist activists, we explore challenges, progress, and the urgent need for action.

In this episode, WAVE offers an inspiring look at regional resistance and European-wide solidarity in action by exploring how women’s specialist services are building bridges across borders. Through the WAVE Regional Meetings, feminist activists from across Europe are connecting, strategising, and learning from each other in powerful ways to prevent and tackle violence against women and girls. From Latvia to Türkiye, feminist organisations face diverse realities, but many also share strikingly similar struggles: shrinking civic space, funding challenges, political backlash, or systemic barriers to supporting survivors of violence.

In this conversation, we speak with the co-organisers of three of the four in-person regional meetings we have had so far to explore how WAVE Regional Meetings have helped them build stronger alliances, find common ground, and amplify their impact.

Joining us are:

Ionela Pleșan from Romanian WAVE member Necuvinte (Asociația Necuvinte), who co-organised the first in-person meeting for the East-Central Europe region in Bucharest, Romania, in March 2024.

Leyla Soydinç from Turkish WAVE member Mor Çatı (Mor Çatı Kadın Sığınağı Vakfı), who co-organised the South Europe regional meeting in Istanbul, Türkiye, in April 2024.

And Inete Ielite from Latvian WAVE member Women’s NGOs Cooperation Network (Latvijas Sieviešu nevalstisko organizāciju sadarbības tīkls), who co-organised the North Europe regional meeting in Riga, Latvia, in April 2025.

Our WAVE members reflect on what it means to work together across differences, and how in-person feminist spaces are vital for trust-building, exchange, and creating lasting change.
