Ženergija Special — VBKÖ: When Archives Speak

Take up space. Choose joy.

And don’t miss ThiccPhatUTOPIAS – La résistance!, curated by Dshamilja, on September 26 at WUK — a space for Black joy, fat liberation, queer resistance, art and celebration.

I spoke with Dshamilja Gosteli (they/she) about racism and trauma, bodies, fat liberation, and something that is too often taken away from us — the right to joy.

Who is allowed to take up space, to dance, celebrate, and simply enjoy life? And what does it mean to learn and unlearn the ideas we have been taught about bodies, race, gender and belonging?

Dshamilja Gosteli is an educational scientist, educator, facilitator, researcher, artist and curator of social spaces. They are a first-generation, self-funded PhD candidate at the Department of Education at the University of Vienna. Through their interdisciplinary work, Dshamilja challenges heteronormativity, racism, anti-fat bias and ableism, creating queer resistance for Black joy and fat liberation in Europe.
